"We had not booked a thing other than the plane tickets and insurance. The day we arrived in Phuket we found some accomodation, where we spent the next 3 days. We then got a lift over to a town called Krabi where we got on a farmers ferry (had cows and pigs on board no tourists at all) to our new destination, the island of Ko Samui."

"Ko samui was great, fabulous beaches, sunbaking  and  partying. The next day we decided we would hire some scooters to check out the whole island, renting them through the hotel. We offered our Australian driver's licenses, but were just asked to sign a waver and hand over our passports.. (no questions asked)... we were away! We travelled to the other side of the Island, had lunch and were returning when the unthinkable happened.

I was cut off by a car then lost control and fell off. This is where Andy and Roachy saved my life as the car wanted to put me in the back and take me to hospital, but they insisted i wait for the ambulance."

After spending some hours at the Koh Samui hospital, they found my injuries (including 3 broken ribs, bruised heart and lungs, bleeding kidney, broken vertabrae at T10 and T11 and a damaged spinal cord, plus lacerations to the back of the head and side of the body) needed more specialised care and surgery, so i was airlifted to the Bummrungrad Hospital in Bangkok.

This hospital is a five star, fully private establishment, with world leading orthopaedic and neurosurgeons. I was lucky to be sent here and not somewhere else in Bangkok, as it offers the topmost staff, treatment and care.

My spine was repaired with titanium screws and plates and is knitting succesfully, but my spinal cord is not so hot and I am currently paralized from the hips down and use a wheelchair.

Please guys, read all of your contracts... And believe me, act on them. If you haven't got an Australian motorbike license...  Don't go hiring mopeds or scooters in Thailand... Accidents there are very expensive business.
